Hello Kitty goes "Luxe"!
This is one very sparkly story indeed. If you’ve seen the new Britney Spears video “Do Somethin” then you might have noticed the Hello Kitty diamond pendant she’s wearing. Yes, this one-of-a-kind about nine carats of diamonds and is valued at over US$50,000. The pendant is a showcase piece for the new “Hello Kitty Collection by Kimora Lee Simmons,” a co-branded licensed partnership with the Simmons Jewelry Co. The collection - with price points from US$350 to US$3,500 - makes its debut this month exclusively at select Neiman Marcus stores.
Hello Kitty also shines on three classic “Luxe” accessories from Judith Leiber, the American luxury brand known for its crystal accessories. Most notable is the Hello Kitty “Minaudiere” which retails for US$1,895. It’s available at Judith Leiber boutiques and select fine department stores – like Neiman Marcus.
And now, Judith Leiber, the Simmons Jewelry Co. and Sanrio have come together on the ultimate over-the-top accessory – the Hello Kitty Diamond Minaudiere, co-designed by Judith Leiber and Kimora Lee Simmons. Judith Leiber has teamed up with rap superstar Nelly for a private in-store auction event in early May.
The VIP fundraising event will benefit Nelly’s non-profit foundation, 4Sho4Kids, which provides literacy and other educational and social programs to underprivileged inner-city youth. Other items at the auction include an alligator and diamond PDA case co-developed by Judith Leiber and Simmons Jewelry Co.; VIP backstage tickets to Nelly’s upcoming Sweat & Suit tour; and, an autographed “Nellyville” jacket and Nike Air Force 1 sneakers contributed by the rap star himself. In addition to the auction items, a limited edition PDA case will be available by special order at Judith Leiber’s flagship store through August 31st.
“What I am trying to do with 4Sho4Kids and children nationwide is to encourage them to use their minds and provide them with a positive environment,” says Nelly. “Collaborating with Judith Leiber allows us to raise funds for the foundation and provides children with a better alternative other than the streets. So not only is this is an exciting joint venture for both Judith Leiber and myself but an event for a good cause.”
The one-of-a-kind Hello Kitty Minaudiere is encrusted with over 17 carats of white and black diamonds set in 18-karat white gold. Semi-precious stones include over 200 carats of peridot, amethyst and pink sapphires, providing the perfect accent of color to make this bag sparkle! It is valued at US$125,000 and opening bids start at US$50,000!!
